Guide

What value should I declare on a free sample?

Declare a realistic value for customs purposes, not zero. Describe what the sample is and what it is for.

Why zero causes trouble

Samples often have no commercial value, but a zero value can mean a hold. A vague description or an unrealistic value gets the box held.

What the invoice should say

A clear description, the sample purpose and a realistic value. We review the proforma before pickup so it states a value for customs purposes and marks the sample as not for sale.

The HS code

When the description or HS code does not match what is in the box, customs stops it to ask. We check the classification against the sample before it ships.
